Central Peninsula track athletes competed in both the 4A and 1-2-3A divisions at the 2016 ASAA State Track & Field Championships held at Dimond High School.
Individual state champions included: SoHi’s Daisy Nelson in the 4A 400M; Kenai’s Josh Jackman in the 4A Long Jump, Nikiski’s Luke Johnson in the 1-2-3A shot put; and Noah Leaf in the 1-2-3A 110M hurdles. The SoHi girls added a gold medal performance in the 4X400M relay.
4A State Track & Field Championships: Finals Results
SoHi Girls
SoHi’s Daisy Nelson raced to the championship in the 400M dash and anchored the state championship 4X400M relay team for the Stars, teamed with Brittany Taylor, Olivia Hutchings and Lindsey Wong for the gold medal.
In the 400M, Brittany Taylor finished 3rd and Olivia Hutchings, 5th: Taylor added a 6th in the 100M and Nelson added a 7th in the 200M
In the throwing events, Emily Pieh earned a silver medal in the discus, followed by Annie Quinn in third and Sylvia Tuasaula in seventh. In the shot put, Tuasaula threw for a 6th overall.

SoHi Boys
Aaron Swedberg placed second in the 800M with a personal best 1:5870 and Levi Michael placed fourth in the 800M. Both Swedberg and Michael raced on the Star’s 4X400M relay for a 6th place, and the 4X800M relay for a 4th place.
Dalton Best placed 4th in the shot put and 7th in the discus; and Andrew Van Hout placed 5th in the 110M hurdles.
Kenai Girls
Katie Kilfoyle made the finals in both hurdle events with an eighth in the 100M hurdles and a fourth in the 300M hurdles.
Abby Beck placed in both throwing events with a 5th in the discus and a 5th in the shot put. Julianne Wilson placed 5th in the long jump.
The Kardinals girls placed sixth in the 4X200M relay and sixth in the 4X400M relay.
Kenai Boys
Josh Jackman lead the Kardinal boys with a state championship in the long jump event, jumping a season best 22’2.75″. Jackman also earned a silver medal in the triple jump and placed fourth in the 100M dash and sixth in the 400M dash.
Keenan Orth placed sixth in the high jump and Jarett Wilson placed 6th in the 110M hurdles.

Nikiski
Luke Johnson threw for a gold medal in the boys shot put and finished second in the discus. Ian Johnson added a sixth in the discus. Aaron McCollum finished sixth in the triple jump, and the Bulldogs placed fourth in the 4X100M relay. The Nikiski girls were lead by Bethany Carstens with a runner-up in the high jump and Arianne Parrish with a third in the triple jump.
Cook Inlet Academy
Noah Leaf earned a state championship in the 110M hurdles and a runner-up in the 300M hurdles; team mate Brady Hammond finished eighth in the 100M dash and was a member of the 3rd place 4X100M relay team along with Jiaboa Leaf, Connor Leaf and Noah Leaf.
Unified Track Events
SoHi’s Unified Track entries won a gold medal in the long jump, a silver medal in the 100M, a bronze in the shot put and a bronze in the 4X100M relay. Unified team members included: Malikhi Hanson, Brian Dusek, Alex Lisenby, and Ben Wilson.
