The Kenai Peninsula Borough will serve as a key sponsor for the annual Industry Appreciation Day event on August 17 from Noon to 4 PM at the Kenai Park Strip. There is no charge to the public for this fun four-hour family event that includes free food, games, and prizes. Food options include burgers, grilled salmon, and pulled pork sliders.
Industry Appreciation Day is an opportunity to recognize leading individuals and businesses that make a difference in our community through fishing, tourism, oil & gas, and the medical industry. Awards will be presented by local officials and leaders in our community in a short ceremony.
KPB Constituent Relations and Special Projects Assistant Dana Cannava said;
“This is a leave your wallet at home event.” As in years past, bicycles will be given away as prizes to kids competing in the games. Last year, 21 bikes were given away. There are three different age categories for the games so children of all age groups have a chance to win.”
A new favorite that began recently is the classic car show sponsored by Freddie Pollard and the Katnu Kruzers, who will be accepting donations to Way Out Women (WOW) and Kenai Peninsula chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Mayor Peter Micciche said;
“Decades ago we appreciated that our economy depends on the key industries of oil and gas, fishing, tourism and health care and began to celebrate them annually on Industry Appreciation Day. Join us for this free community event to recognize the critical positive impact industry has on our community. These businesses create our economy here on the Kenai through employment, the tax base, critical products and services and support for local non-profits. Through these important benefits, these four industries contribute significantly to making our Kenai Peninsula this amazing place to live, work, play and visit. Come join us on Saturday, August 17th!”
