Initial Phases of Borough Tax Code Overhaul Set for August

Administration will begin an in-depth look at what have been described as the borough’s “patch work” tax codes in August.

 

Borough Mayor’s Special Oil and Gas Assistant Larry Persily said he has been tasked to lead the efforts.

Persily: “No one has really sat down and read through them all, do they still all make sense? Are they still all valid? What’s on the books? Are there any problems from the borough perspective or the public perspective that we need to address and get the people at the table and then go talk to the public about?”

 

Persily said that over the years a variety of tax codes have been added or amended and this will aim to make sure that the current codes are as efficient as possible for both the public and the borough.

 

He added that as technology advances in areas like online shopping the borough needs to adapt.

 

The legal department, finance, and mayor’s office will all be involved in the review.
