Inmate Assaults Multiple Wildwood Corrections Officers

Alaska State Troopers were called to Wildwood Pretrial Facility on Monday following a report of an assault on one of the prison staff by an inmate. Upon arrival Troopers discovered a 29-year-old inmate, identified as Grant Phillip Lee Arseneau of Homer, had in fact assaulted two correctional officers.

According to court documents, Arseneau did not return to his cell along with other inmates when the prison was put into “lockdown.” He was instructed by corrections officers to return to his room, but instead Arseneau proceeded in a different direction down a flight of stairs.

When a corrections officer attempted to restrain him using wrist restraints, Arseneau attacked, shoving the first officer, then attempting to punch another who came to assist. Court documents state that none of Arseneau’s attempted punches connected, but that he ultimately had to be restrained by “several” officers.

According to an AST affidavit, Arseneau told the arresting trooper he did not return to his room, and assaulted the corrections officers “because he did not feel the wrist restraints were necessary and he felt disrespected.”

Arseneau is already in prison for assault following an incident in Homer in 2023 when he attacked a man on a trail because he believed the man had insulted him.

After Monday’s incident, Arseneau is charged with two counts  4th degree assault.
