Alaska State Troopers were notified of a death at Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward on Friday, June 17. According to the online trooper dispatch, 28-year-old SCCC inmate Leefisher Tukrook was found dead in his cell.
Tukrook was subsequently taken to a Seward area medical facility where he was pronounced deceased. He was alone in his cell, and there is no indication of foul play at this time, according to troopers. His remains were sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner for autopsy. Next of kin was notified by North Slope Borough Police.
The maximum-security correctional center is located in Seward. It can house up to 535 male inmates and employs more than 200 staff. Most terms at the institution that are being served are long term sentences.
