The World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race will feature 26 Pro Class teams running the 2021 Iron Dog with the official start set for Saturday, February 13th in Big Lake, Alaska.

 

The 2021 Iron Dog begins and ends at the Burkeshore Marina in Big Lake with the halfway point in Nome, Alaska.  The race will not have a ceremonial start in Anchorage or a finish in downtown Fairbanks due to covid mitigation guidelines and procedures.

February 12th: COVID-19 PCR Testing

February 13th:  Start for Pro Class at Burkeshore Marina, Big Lake

Fans are encouraged to watch the race “on the trail” or via live stream. Fans are encouraged to limit group size, practice social distancing and wear masks.

 

The field of 26 Pro Class racers includes a pair of rookies for Soldotna racing as Team 19.  Jimmy Gattenby (28) and Travis Temple (32) were both born and raised on the Kenai Peninsula.  Gattenby has won the Arctic Man Hillcross; Temple has twice (2019-2020) recorded DNF in the Iron Dog.

 

The Kenai Peninsula owns a storied history in the Iron Dog.  Scott Davis of Soldotna holds the record for total victories with seven.  Dusty Van Meter of Kasilof has five victories; Cory Davis, Scott’s son won the Iron Dog in 2017.

 

Recent Race Results

2020: Tyler Aklestad and Nick Olstad won the Iron Dog racing on Ski-Doo sleds.  Nick Olstad has four championships with three different teammates.  In 2021, Aklestad and Olstad will wear bib #7.  2018 and 2019 champions Mike Morgan and Chris Olds are entered in the 2021 event as team #10 racing Polaris.
