Iron Dog Racers Set For Ceremonial Saturday Start

The 2016 National Guard Iron Dog Snowmobile Race, the world’s longest and toughest snowmobile race, celebrates its ceremonial start on Saturday, February 20th in downtown Anchorage.  The official restart will be held in Big Lake on Sunday.  Along with the race activities, the Flying Iron Freestyle Show is scheduled for Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Race Schedule for Events

Friday, Feb. 19th: Start of recreational class race at Big Lake

Saturday, Feb 20th: Ceremonial Start of Pro Class Race in downtown Anchorage

…Green Flag drops on first team at 12:10 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 21st: Official Restart of Pro Class at Big Lake

…Green Flag drops on first team at 11:00 a.m. and team are released on two-minute intervals

Wednesday, Feb 24th: Halfway Ceremonies planned for Nome

Saturday, Feb. 27th: Finish of Iron Dog Pro Class in downtown Fairbanks

 

Flying Iron Freestyle Shows

Friday, Feb. 19th: 7:00 p.m. start on 3rd Ave. between E and C street (featuring Cory Davis of Soldotna)

Saturday, Feb 20th: 2:00 p.m. start on 3rd Ave. between E and C street
