Following a mandatory lay-over in McGrath, the lead teams in the 2022 Iron Dog Snowmachine Race will head-out on Friday morning to either Puntilla or Swentna for a scheduled lay-over until Saturday.
Team #7 Nick Olstead and Tyler Aklestad were the first to the McGrath checkpoint on Thursday evening at 8:04 p.m., completing the run from Unalakleet to McGrath in less than 10 hours.
Friday will feature a restart and a run to either Puntilla or Swentna, a distance of either 148 or 80 miles, before the finish at the Menard Arena in Wasilla. Teams will be held to guarantee a Saturday finish around noon in Wasilla.
Team #34 Bradley Kishbaugh of Soldotna and Kelly Sommer of Nulato were seventh into Nome on Monday and, as of 9 a.m. Friday morning, had moved-up to fourth overall reaching the McGrath checkpoint at 4:09 a.m. on Friday.
Team #19 Chad Moore of Sterling and Travis Temple of Soldotna have reportedly scratched at the southbound checkpoint at Koyuk.
