IRS Scam Reported in Homer

An IRS scam which has been widely reported in Anchorage has also now been reported in Homer.

 

Police Chief Mark Robl…

 

Robl: “A caller reported on January 20th at approximately noon that he had received what he considered to be a bogus IRS call and that he had been instructed to call another number to receive a gift voucher, he immediately felt suspicious of the phone call.”

The scams have been described as a caller claiming to be an IRS collector requesting residents to either pay a fee that is overdue or face criminal charges or other repercussions.

 

Robl: “The IRS never calls, the IRS is going to send you an official mailing. There are other types of scams going on too and people should be suspicious when thing sound too good to be true or so strange and unusual that they’ve never heard about it before.”
