Legislature passed a bill this session correcting a problem that officers experienced in regards to issuing citations.

 

Lieutenant David Ross with the Kenai Police Department explained.

Ross: “State law did not allow for citations to be issued, parking citations or others, without personally serving them on the person they were being given to. This year the legislature and Senate Bill 116 has addressed that, I don’t know if it’s been signed by the Governor yet but that would allow citations to be issued that aren’t necessarily personally served on the person.” 

 

Ross stated the busiest season is coming up.

Ross: “In town at handicap parking spaces, or for snow removal there’s other parking issues but specifically for dip net we do see a lot of people illegally parked in areas down around Kenai Ave. and other places in town, so when our man power is spread the thinnest with the biggest event in town, dip net, we’re dealing with parking so it will be a big benefit for us to be able to leave citations on those.”

 

SB 116 now awaits Governor Sean Parnell’s signature.
