Lydia Jacoby posted the third fastest time in the qualifying semi-final in the women’s 100M Breaststroke on Sunday evening Alaska Time, qualifying her to the Women’s 100M Breaststroke Finals set for Monday, July 26th at 6:17 p.m. ADT.
Jacoby recorded a time of 1 minute, 5.72 seconds in the semi-final, winning the first heat of two heats and automatically qualifying to the Olympic final.
Tatjana Schoenmaker of South Africa won Sunday’s other semifinal in 1:05.07, out-touching reigning Olympic gold medalist Lilly King, who placed second in 1:05.40. In the preliminary round Schoenmaker set a new Olympic record of 1:04.82.
Lydia Jacoby is the second-youngest swimmer in the finals at 17 years of age; Russia’s Evgeniia Chikunova is 16-years-old.
