Lydia Jacoby posted the second-fastest Women’s 100M Breaststroke in the world for 2021 and punched her ticket to the 2020 Toyko Summer Olympic Games with a second place finish to the world record holder Lilly King in the 100M Breaststroke finals on Tuesday night at the USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.

In the Women’s 100M Breaststroke final, Jacoby trailed the lead swimmers through the first length of the pool and powered her way from fifth to second-place by the touch of the wall. Jacoby clocked a time of 1:05.28, nearly half a second behind King and .32 ahead of third-place finisher Annie Lazor (1:05.60).

Jacoby’s time is the second-fastest time recorded in the event in 2021: Lilly King holds the World and American records and the only times under 1:05. King topped the field in 1:04.79 and stands as the top female breaststroke swimmer in the world.

Jacoby earns the United States Women’s Olympic Team’s second qualifier for the 100M Breaststroke. She recorded a time of 1:05.71 on Monday to claim the national age group record for 17- to 18-year-olds.

Lydia Jacoby entered the US Olympic Trials with a qualifying time of 1:06.38 and improved by a full 1.1 seconds with a finals time of 1:05.28. Lydia is an in-coming senior at Seward High School and the first Alaskan to qualify to the Summer Olympics in swimming.
