The USA National Swim Team members have been named and Alaska’s Lydia Jacoby is among 34 first-time selections to the national team and one of 51 women selected to the national team.
Jacoby, age 17, is the second youngest on the national team and one of 60 Olympians (female and male) to make the team. Selection to the National Team was based on the athletes’ performances from January 1, 2021 through August 31, 2021.
Jacoby, Olympic gold medal winner in the women’s 100M Breaststroke, automatically qualifies as one of the six American swimmers with the fastest times in their events during the 2020-21 season. Jacoby swam the season’s third fastest time in the world to win the 100-meter breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics in late July. The time ranks as the second fastest by an American last season.
U.S. National Team Members enjoy several key benefits, including access to monthly stipends, meet reimbursement, athlete health insurance, and Olympic Training Center access, among others. Athletes named to the 2021-2022 National Team will be members of the team from September 10, 2021-September 8, 2022.
The 2021-22 season begins in late November. Two of the major events, both in North Carolina, are the U.S. Open in early December and the international team trials in April. The April meet will decide the U.S. team for the FINA World Championships scheduled for May in Japan.
