Seward’s Lydia Jacoby returns to the international swimming stage competing in the first leg of the swimming World Cup this weekend in Germany.
The 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup kicks-off in Berlin, Germany on Friday October 1st beginning a three-day, 25m swimming event which runs through Sunday,October 3rd. Preliminary heats will be held in the morning and finals in the evening. About 240 of the world’s best short course swimmers have registered to take part in the meet.
The Berlin met is the first of four legs, each counting as qualifiers to the World Swimming Championships. Next on the World Cup series will be a meet in Budapest, Hungary.
Jacoby is scheduled to compete in the 200M Breaststroke on Friday, October 1st and the 100M Breaststroke on Saturday, October 2nd. in Berlin’s Europasportpark indoor swimming pool.
In the women’s pool, Canada’s Olympic champion Kylie Masse will compete as well as Sweden’s Michelle Coleman and USA’s Lydia Jacoby. Russia’s swimming star Yuliya Efimova and Kira Toussaint of the Netherlands will also ensure a spectacular show at Berlin’s Europasportpark indoor swimming pool.
The FINA Swimming World Cup series will be Jacoby’s first international competition with competition prize money available. A sum of $224,000 to the top 20 athletes will be available for each stage, and a total of $556,000 will be given to the top 10 athletes at the end of the series based on the overall ranking.
