The Borough’s Office of Emergency Management has postponed the Community Emergency Response Team classes that were supposed to start a week ago until February 13.

Program Coordinator at OEM Dan Nelson said it was due to last minute cancellations and now the program will again be accepting applications for the training until February 11.

The training involves four courses which begin on a Friday evening from 6 – 9 pm and then three full Saturday courses ending with a mock emergency.

Nelson: “Disaster preparedness, fire suppression, disaster medical operations and then we’ll get into search and rescue and team organization and some other concepts as well.”

Nelson said that the minimum amount of people needed have already registered but more are welcome.

To apply for the courses, visit the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Office of Emergency Managment’s web page.
