The 2021 Chicago Marathon returned to the streets of Chicago on Sunday (the 2020 race was cancelled due to covid-19) and around 35,000 participants from world class athletes to recreational runners competed in multiple divisions.
Kenai’s Jason Parks raced to a 38th place overall finish; 36th in the men’s division. Parks, running in the men’s 30-34 age division, finished 11th in the age group.
Jason Parks finished the 26.2 mile course in 2:27:13.
Seifu Tura Abdiwak of Ethiopia topped the men’s field posting the winning time of 2 hours, 6 minutes and 12 seconds. Galen Rupp, from America and the 2017 champion, was second in 2:06:35, followed by Kenya’s Eric Kiptanui with a time of 2:06:51.
Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya won the women’s division on Sunday in 2 hours, 22 minutes and 31 seconds.
