The Christmas holiday features the 50th Annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament in Kodiak and the Kenai Kardinal girls and Ninilchik boys are among the teams participating in the three-day, round-robin format tournament.
Tuesday Game Results: Joe Floyd Tournament
Kenai Girls 27 – Kodiak 30
The Kodiak girls opened tournament play with a 30-27 victory over Kenai in a contest that went down to the wire between two Northern Lights Conference teams. The Kardinals and Bears were tied 14-14 at the half and Kodiak held a one-point lead after three quarters 20-19. The Bears held-off the Kards 10-8 in the fourth for the 30-27 victory. Kenai sophomore Brook Satathite lead all scorers with 15 points. Tuesday’s game was not a conference game for the two teams; Kenai and Kodiak will play a conference contest on Friday following the Joe Floyd Tournament.
Kenai faces West Valley in the tournament’s second round with a scheduled 1:00 p.m. game on Wednesday afternoon. Follow the Kardinals on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com.
West Valley Boys 63 – Ninilchik Boys 53
The Ninilchik Wolverines lead for three quarters over the 4A division West Valley Wolfpack from Fairbanks in the opening boys game of the Joe Floyd Tournament; however, West Valley erupted for 27 points in the final quarter for a 63-53 victory over the Wolverines. Ninilchik lead 31-21 at the half, holding West Valley to only three points in the second quarter. Tyler Presley carried the scoring for Ninilchik with 19 points.
Ninilchik battles the host Kodiak on Wednesday night scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time.
The Wolverines’ Thursday scheduled opponent was to be Wrangell; however, the Wrangell boys pulled-out of the tournament, setting up a game on Thursday for Ninilchik against either the Kodiak Alumni or Kodiak JV (either way the game will not count on the Wolverines official record).

Kardinal Basketball Opens Conference Play In Kodiak
