Joe Rizzo Raising Money To Help Triumvirate Theatre Rebuild

In the aftermath of the fire that destroyed the Triumvirate Theatre on February 20th, Executive Director Joe Rizzo spoke with KSRM saying he intends to rebuild the theatre. The theatre lost everything in the fire including equipment, furnishings and costumes. The insurance policy didn’t cover the contents of the building and the Triumvirate Theatre Emergency Relief Fund went live to help the community rebuild.

The Alaska Community Foundation has already seen donations pile in. Rizzo said in the last three weeks, there were over 200 donations including one for $10,000 from the Rasmuson Foundation. So far, they’re at $50,000 in hopes of raising more. “The goal is to hit $100,000. I don’t think that’s going to cover everything, but I think if we can get 3-400 people to donate and we can raise that much money, I think we can go to corporations and foundations and say ‘this is important to the community. This is how they’ve turned to this. Would you match some of these funds or would you contribute?’

Rizzo details the Triumvirate Theatre’s plans for this year, “We are plowing forward. There is going to be some kind of building. Triumvirate Theatre will continue on. We will continue on in our operations. Regardless of how things turn out with the building or any of that, we’re going to continue on. We’ve been very lucky and fortunate that the KPBSD school district is going to allow us to operate out of the little theatre at KCHS this year, which is this coming school year, which is going to be a great boon for us because we’re going to be able to continue on and do the work that we do and get kids back on stage.
