Junior Golfers Excel In State Championships First Round

The 2015 Alaska Junior Golf Championships opened two days of competition at the Birch Ridge Golf Course on Monday.  The championships are being held on the Kenai Peninsula for the first time with Birch Ridge hosting over 35 junior division golfers competing in age -group divisions, both girls and boys.

 

Local golfers performed well in the first round on Monday leading in five divisions.

Shane Sundberg posted an 85 to lead the boys 10-12 division; Max Dye shot 80 for a first round lead in the boys 16-18 division; Anika Richards posted a nine-hole 50 in the 11-13 division; Danica Schmidt shot 50 in the nine-hole girls 16-18 division and Katelin Richards posted a first-day 78 in the girls 16-18 division.

Tuesday’s second round begins with 8:30 a.m. tee times.
