The K-Beach Flood Mitigation Project is slowing down a proposed “high water conveyance structure” project after residents downstream of the project objected.
The 7th Street storm water conveyance structure, essentially a 2 mile long ditch, would carry up to 23 million gallons of water per day.
The Project was applying for permits from the Department of Natural Resources, but President and CEO Kelly Lipinski says they understand the fears voiced by residents. She says the Project will undertake additional studies before taking any further steps.
The structure would have run from Buoy Avenue to a beaver pond next to Eider Drive near K-Beach Road, but residents in that area aren’t convinced the structure will be able to hold up to the pressure of that volume of water.
