The Department of Natural Resources is still reviewing a permit application from the K-Beach Flood Mitigation Project which my alleviate flooding around 7th Street.

The 7th Street storm water conveyance structure, essentially a ditch, would carry up to 23 million gallons of water per day. The DNR says they want to make sure that water doesn’t flow into other homes or cause additional flooding issues.

Hydrogeologist Jim Munter has been working with local residents…

Munter: “The full plan permit applications were made, both to DNR for a temporary water use authorization and also to the Kenai River Center to go through the multi-agency review process that they have set up there. And there’s been no comprehensive response, there’s been a few issues that have come up that have been addressed but neither of those processes is complete yet.”

The permit was submitted one month ago today. The process can take upwards of 60 days.
