The K-Beach High Water Drainage Task Force met for the second time last night to discuss how to proceed.

Although the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly passed a resolution supporting the task force, Chair and Hydrogeologist Jim Munter said the language of the resolution was unclear.

Munter: What had happened what that the assembly had specifically endorsed the creation of the task force by the DNR and our task force as it’s working now is not convened by the DNR. So the question is does the assembly endorse what we’re doing and the answer is probably not as the letter of the resolution lays out. Now they do endorse the concept of a task force very similar to what we’re doing here but we haven’t gotten DNR in the room yet.”

Representatives from the Department of Natural Resources, State of Alaska, and borough were invited to last night’s meeting however only Borough Mayor Mike Navarre and Assembly Member Wayne Ogle showed.

Much of the meeting was spent trying to find a focus for the task force and determining what studies had been already established by the borough.

Munter: “Part of the idea of getting everybody in the room is so that you don’t repeat studies that have already been done, we’re very early in the process here and really would like the borough to fill us in on all the little problem areas that we’ve identified and why there are problems, continuing problems there are logistical and technical hurtles and all sorts of issues that complicate easy solutions but we want to work with the borough.”

Munter said that as of now they have a skeleton on a feasibility study for the area, however by the next time the task force meets they will most likely have the scope of work and cost estimate for it.
