Kard Girls Fall 45-39 To Kotzebue Huskies At ACS Tournament

The Kenai Kardinal girls battled Kotzebue to the buzzer in Friday’s early game at the 2020 ACS Denali Auto Glass/Pepsi Invitational Basketball Tournament with Kotzebue downing Kenai 45-39 and scoring the final six points of the fourth quarter.

Kotzebue jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Kenai closed the first quarter with a 12-2 run and lead 12-5 after one quarter.  The Kardinal girls lead 18-16 at the half.

In the third quarter after a quick run by the Huskies, Kenai took the lead at 25-24 on a Logan Satathite three-point basket.  The third quarter ended tied 28-28.

The Kardinals, late in the fourth quarter, re-tied the game at 39-39 on a fourth, Satathite three-pointer: that would prove to be Kenai’s final points of the game.  Kotzebue’s Thomas hit a three with :50 seconds remaining for a 42-39 lead.  Kotzebue added a freethrow and layup in the final seconds for the 45-39 victory for the Huskies.  Logan Satathite lead the Kardinal girls with 16 points; Jayden Streiff added 11 points.

 

The Kardinal girls return to play on Saturday morning in the 7th-8th place game scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
