Nineteen three-point baskets for the Nikiski Bulldog boys on Senior Night proved enough to push the Kardinals to overtime; however not enough to record a Southcentral Conference victory for Nikiski as Kenai downs Nikiski 71-67 in overtime on Tuesday at Nikiski.
Kenai Boys 71 – Nikiski 67
Austin Stafford scored 34 points for the Bulldogs, including five-straight threes to open the game and a total of 11 three-point baskets for the game. Nikiski drained 19 three-point baskets total, making only four, two-point field goals.
Kenai battled throughout keeping pace with the offensive onslaught of the Bulldogs, Kenai trailing 34-31 at the half and the Kardinals took the lead 50-49 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Nikiski’s Stafford gave the Bulldogs a 61-58 lead with his eleventh trey; Kenai’s Braedon Pitsch answered with a three to send the game to overtime 61-61.
In the overtime, Kenai outscores Nikiski 10-6 for the 71-67 Southcentral Conference victory.
Nikiski Girls 41 – Kenai 22
The Nikiski girls defense held Kenai to seven points through three quarters in a 41-22 Southcentral Conference basketball victory. Lillian Carstens lead Nikiski with 27 points; Jaiden Streiff topped the Kardinal girls with 13 points.
SoHi Girls 59 – Homer 15
The Soldotna Stars dominated Homer in non-divisional basketball in Homer on Tuesday. The Lady Stars defeated Homer 59-15 with Itu Tuisaula leading all scorers with 23 points.
SoHi Boys 52 – Homer 40
The Soldotna boys rallied from a slow opening quarter for a 52-40 victory over the Mariners in non-conference action. Jersey Truesdell led SoHi with 17 points and Ray Chumley added 11 points.
