Kardinal Football Opens Week Four With 63-6 Win Over Houston

The high school football season enters week four of the regular season with conference games for SoHi and Nikiski on Saturday and a non-conference drubbing 63-6 by the Kardinals over Houston on Friday night.

 

Kenai 63 – Houston  6

The Kenai Kardinals returned home following a road win at Kodiak for a non-conference game against Houston on Friday at Ed Hollier Field.

The Kardinals scored four touchdowns on their first four offensive plays, en-route-to a 63-6 victory over Houston.  Andrew Wellborn score on a 68-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and after Kenai recovered an on-side kick, Wellborn scored on a 44-yard run; two touchdowns on two plays. Following a kick return fumble, Kenai’s Nick Beeson scored on a 3-yard run and Zack Tuttle added a scored on a 40-yard carry.  Four plays, four touchdowns for the Kardinals.  Chase Gillies added an 86-yard touchdown run and Zack Koziczkowski recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.  First Quarter score 42-0

Kenai added a pair of touchdowns by McMinn and an interception return for a touchdown by Heiber.

Kenai rushed for 300+ yards on only 25 carries and the Kardinals defense recorded four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Kenai improves to 2-1 on the season and stands at 1-0 in the Northern Lights Conference.

 

SoHi vs Kodiak     Saturday, September 5th     2:00 p.m.      ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com

The Soldotna Stars, 3-0 on the season with three victories over Large School opponents, return to SoHi for a Northern Lights Conference game against the Kodiak Bears.  SoHi’ s program win streak stands at 32 games, Alaska’s longest, consecutive win streak for high school football.

Game time scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Nikiski vs Voznesenka @ Homer High Field    Saturday, Sept. 5th    2:00 p.m.    KSRM 920 AM

The Nikiski Bulldogs travel again to Homer High School for a second Peninsula Conference contest.  The Bulldogs will face Voznesenka on Saturday on the Homer field.  Nikiski stands at 2-1 on the regular season and 1-0 in the Peninsula Conference.

Game time scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
