The Kardinals defense turned-away Eagle River three times on downs in the first half to give the Kenai football team a chance to get on-track on offense. The Kardinal offense never got rolling and the Eagle River Wolves recorded a 31-0 shut-out of Kenai at Eagle River on Saturday.
Eagle River 31 – Kenai 0
The Kardinals held Eagle River on the Wolves first drive on the Kardinal 15-yard line; however, a bad snap on fourth down and Kenai surrenders a safety for a 2-0 Wolves lead. On the next series, Kenai stops Eagle River on the 1-yard line; however, Kenai fumbles on the one and Eagle River converts a 1-yard Cashiez Reaves touchdown run. The Kardinals defense holds Eagle River on fourth down at the Kenai 24-yard line; however, Kenai’s quarterback Kayden Daniels throws an interception in the end zone. Half time score 10-0 Eagle River.
The Wolves scored three second-half touchdowns, the first on the first play from scrimmage on a 50-yard run by Reaves. Running back LaDavien Simon scored on a 27-yard reception and Andrew Hamilton added a 13-yard rushing touchdown. Final score: Eagle River 31, Kenai 0.
The Kardinals drop to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the Northern Lights Conference. Eagle River posted its fourth-straight victory over a Division II program and improves to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in the NLC.
The Kardinals travel to Kodiak next Saturday for an NLC contest against the 0-6 Bears. Eagle River travels to Soldotna to battle the undefeated SoHi Stars on Saturday.
