Deja Vu at the 2016 Region III Cross Country Running Championships with the Kodiak boys and Kenai Kardinal girls repeating as team champions in the 4A large school division, and the Homer girls and boys teams both repeating as Region III 1-2-3A team champions at the regional running championships held on the Tsalteshi Trails on Saturday.
Region III 4A Championship Results
4A Girls
The Kenai girls team placed four runners in the top ten and repeat as team champions lead by a runner-up finish by Jaycie Calvert, a 4th-place by Riana Boonstra, a 5th-place for Brooke Satathite and an 8th-place finish for Ithaca Bergholtz. Julie Wilson recorded the Kardinals fifth scoring position with a 23rd place and the Kenai girls hold-off Colony 42 to 50 in the team scoring.
SoHi’s Molly Erickson was the Stars top runner in 22nd; and Kenai’s Allison Gibson finished 25th.
4A Boys
The Kodiak Bears boys team, lead by Region III champion Keith Osowski outraces Colony for the boys team title. Osowski won his second-straight individual title and Kodiak placed three runners in the top ten.
Kenai’s Braden Olsen placed 7th overall and earns a 4A state at-large berth; SoHi’s Josh Shuler earns a state at-large berth with a 9th-place finish. Kenai’s Karl Danielson and SoHi’s Koby Vinson both qualify to the state meet with 11th and 12th place finishes.
Region III 3A Championship Results
3A Girls
Megan Pitzman lead the Homer girls to the Region III 1-2-3A team championship with an individual championship in the Region III 1-2-3A girls race. Homer’s Audrey Rosencrans, 2nd; Autumn Daigle, 3rd; Allison VanPelt, 5th; Lauren Everts, 9th; and Alex Moseley, 10th all combined for the team title recording 23 points to runner-up Grace Christian 46.
3A Boys
The Homer boys also race to the 2016 Region III 1-2-3A boys team championship. Homer’s Jordan Beachy posted a 5th place finish. Hunter Kratz of Seward won the individual title.
The 2016 ASAA State Cross Country Running Championships are scheduled for Saturday, October 1st at Bartlett High School.
