Kardinal Girls Place Second, Mariner Girls Repeat & Boys Win At State Cross Country Championships

The Kenai Kardinal girls placed two runners in the top six and placed second overall in the team scoring at the 2016 ASAA 4A State Cross Country Running Championships contested at Bartlett High School.

4A Girls Division

The Kenai girls were lead by a 4th place finish for Jaycie Calvert; 6th place finish for Riana Boonstra and a 14th-place for Brooke Satathite.  Ithica Bergholtz finished in 25th and Kenai’s fifth scorer Addison Gibson placed 35th overall.

West Valley recorded 48 points for the 4A girls team title; Kenai totaled 72 points.  Sadie Tuckwood from Juneau won the 4A girls individual championship.

4A Boys Division

The 4A boys title goes to West Anchorage High School.  Gus Shoemaker from Service recorded to fastest time in the 4A boys division and the fastest overall time of the state tournament.

SoHi’s Josh Shuler posted the fastest time for a peninsula runner and place 34th overall.  Braden Olson of Kenai place 45th.

1-2-3A Girls

The Homer Mariner girls won a third-straight 1-2-3A team championship, lead by a 2nd place finish by Megan Pitzman.  Glenallen’s Briahna Gerlach topped the 1-2-3A field.

1-2-3A Boys

The Mariner boys won the 2016 1-2-3A team championship, placing five runners in the top 17 placers.

Sewards Hunter Kratz finished second overall to Galena’s Jacob Moss.
