Kardinal Girls Race To Region III Championship: Gibson Captures Individual Title

The Kenai Kardinal girls dominated the field at the Region III Division I Cross Country Running Championships held Saturday on the Government Peck trails; Kenai placing five runners in the top ten for the overall team championship.  The Kenai girls win their third-straight Region III team championship.

Region III Division I Girls Results

Addison Gibson lead the Kenai girls with a first-place finish, completing the 5-kilometer course in 20:40.58.  Kenai’s Riana Boonstra finished second, Kenai’s Jaycie Calvert finished third, Brooke Satathite finished fifth and Ithaca finished tenth.  The Kardinals placed five runners in the top ten for a team score of 21 points.  Palmer finished second in the team scoring with 57 points.

Region III Division I Boys Results

The Soldotna boys narrowly missed the gold medals, finishing in second place in the team scoring behind Wasilla by a mere two points, 51 to 53.

The Soldotna boys placed three runners in the top ten with Josh Shuler in fifth overall; Bradley Walters, 9th; and Koby Vinson, 10th.

Kenai’s Maison Dunham turned in the fastest time by a peninsula runner, placing second overall with a time of 17:59.47; behind Division I champion Hunter Hayes of Wasilla.
