Kardinal Hockey Drops 7-4 Contest To Homer

Railbelt Conference hockey opened a full week of competition on the road for the Kenai Kardinals and Soldotna Stars with Kenai traveling to Homer to battle the Mariners on Tuesday at the Kevin Bell Arena.

 

The Homer Mariners, on the strength of four, first period goals, defeated Kenai 7-4.

 

The Mariners Ethan Pitzman opened the scoring mid-way through the first and added a second goal and an assist in the first period.  For the game Pitzman scored two goals and recorded three assists; Tyler Gilliland scored a three-goal, hat trick for the Mariners.  Kenai’s was lead by a two-goal effort by Jordan Knudsen and a pair of goals for Jacob Begich.  In goal for Kenai, Jackson Cross recorded 20 saves on 27 shots.

 

Upcoming Schedule

Kenai travels to the Valley for conference hockey games against Palmer and Houston on Friday and Saturday, January 11-12.  The Kardinals play Palmer at the MTA Center in Palmer on Friday; then play Houston at the Big Lake Recreation Center on Saturday.  Soldotna hockey plays three games in the Valley with the Stars opening against Palmer on Wednesday; traveling out to Big Lake to face the Houston Hawks on Thursday and closing the road trip at the Menard Arena in Wasilla against the Colony Knights on Friday.
