Kardinals & Bulldogs Drop Divisional Football Contests

Back on the field and back to the regular schedule, the Kenai Kardinals traveled to North Pole for a Division II football game against the Patriots.  The Nikiski Bulldogs hosted Division III Barrow at Nikiski.

 

Kenai 6 – North Pole 31

The North Pole Patriots record their first win of the 2019 season with a 31-6 victory over the Kenai Kardinals on Saturday in North Pole.  The Patriots break a 12-game losing streak dating back to 2017.

North Pole built a 24-0 lead through three quarters before the Kardinals scored their only touchdown on a Zach Burnett 11-yard touchdown run.  The Patriots added a final, fourth quarter touchdown.

Kenai’s Burnett rushed for 129 yards and Tucker Vann added 40 rushing yards.

Kenai drops to 1-2 on the season and will host West Valley at KCHS on Saturday, September 14th.

 

Nikiski 0 – Barrow 14

The Barrow Whalers offense produced a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to break open a scoreless contest with the Nikiski Bulldogs and to record a 14-0 victory on Saturday in Nikiski.

The Whalers opened the scoring with 10 minutes remaining in the game on a Micah Serino 30-yard pass reception.  Barrow added a 20-yard touchdown run by Serino to cap the scoring.  Michael Mysing lead the Bulldogs with 46 rushing yards.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Ketchikan on September 13th to face the Kings.
