The Kenai Kardinal basketball teams closed-out their Peninsula Conference basketball schedule on Saturday at KCHS; and the Grace Christian Grizzlies remain unbeaten in conference play with sweep of Kenai.
Grace Girls 53 – Kenai 35
The Kardinal girls not only battled evenly with the top Peninsula Conference girls team through the first half on Saturday; Kenai actually held a five-point lead at 25-21 in the third quarter before the Grizzlies ran-away for a 53-35 victory. Grace outscored the Kenai girls 32-10 in the final 14 minutes, lead by Sophia Lentfer with 25 points. Kenai’s Emma Beck scored 15 and Logan Satathite scored 13 for the Kardinals. Grace improves to 6-0 in the Peninsula Conference; Kenai stands at 5-3 and second in the conference.
Grace Boys 62 – Kenai 34
The #1 boys team in the Peninsula Conference flexed its collective muscle defeating Kenai 62-34 at KCHS on Saturday.
Grace opened with a 21-9 first quarter lead and lead by24 points after three quarters. The Grizzlies defense held Kenai to single-digit scoring in every quarter. Sloan Lentfer and Luke Lentfer scored 16 and 15 respectively; Kenai’s Wade James scored 10 points for the Kardinals.
Grace stands at 6-0 in the conference standings with two remaining games. Kenai stands at 3-5 and currently 3rd in the Peninsula Conference standings.
Peninsula Conference
The Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament is scheduled for March 10-12 at Kenai Central High School. Grace has guaranteed a #1 seed for both girls and boys brackets. The Kenai girls (5-3) will be the #2 seed; the Kenai boys (with a Grace victory over Nikiski on Thursday) are in line for the #3 seed.
