In a stark reminder that the impact of COVID-19 remains very much in the forefront of the 2021-22 school year and extracurricular programs planned and scheduled for the school year; week one of the high school football season will reflect the uncertainty of the upcoming year.
The Kenai Kardinal football team will not travel to Barrow and will not compete in varsity football on Saturday, August 14th.
The Kardinal football program has cancelled its opening week contest against the Barrow Whalers due to a positive COVID-19 test within the program and the football team has begun mitigation procedures within the Kenai program.
Kenai Principal Dan Beck assured that Kenai Central High School and the Kenai football program will abide by approved KPBSD mitigation measures, including contact tracing, and looks forward to continuing toward the goal of competing in week two with the Kardinals scheduled to travel to North Pole on August 21st to face the Patriots.
