The Kenai Karidnal girls and boys basketball teams, both runner-up in the Peninsula Conference Tournament, open first round play at the ASAA 3A State Basketball Championships on Wednesday, March 22nd at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.

The Kenai girls, seeded #7 into the 3A state tournament bracket, open against the #2 seed Monroe Catholic from Fairbanks, the Aurora Conference champions, in the 11 a.m. game in the Aux Gym in the Alaska Airlines complex. The Kardinal girls are lead by Peninsula Conference MVP Emma Beck, making her third-straight 3A state basketball appearance.
The Kenai boys, seeded #5 into the boys bracket, open the tournament with an 8 a.m. pairing Wednesday against the #4 seeded Mt. Edgecumbe Braves. Kenai played the Braves in Sitka in the early season, falling narrowly in two meetings. Kenai qualifies to the 3A state tournament for the first time since changing classifications; the Kardinals last appearance at the basketball state tournament was in 2012 in the 4A division.
