Once conference foes, once heated rivals; the Kenai Kardinals and Kodiak Bears met on Thursday at KCHS in a non-divisional, non-conference pairing to open a full weekend of basketball on and off the peninsula.
Kenai dominated the Kodiak Bears in both the girls and boys basketball games with the Kardinals jumping-out to comfortable leads in the first quarter and cruising to victories.
Kenai Girls 48 – Kodiak 19
Kenai’s Emma Beck scored a season-high 32 points, controlling the paint against the Kodiak girls, as the Kenai girls improve to 7-0 on the regular season. Kenai led 28-10 at the half and allowed only seven, second half points.
Kenai Boys 71 – Kodiak 43
The Kardinal boys, with four players in double-figures, ran-away from the Kodiak Bears with Jakob Kvasnikoff topping all scorers with 22 points. Kenai jumped-out to a 21-9. first quarter lead and extended to 41-17 at the half. Bridger Beck scored 15, Daniel McRorie added 12 and Wade James scored 11 for Kenai.
The Kenai Kardinals travel to the Valley to face 3A Eastern Conference opponents Houston and Redington. Kenai battles Houston on Friday with varsity games scheduled for 6 & 7:30 p.m. at Houston High School. The Kardinals play Redington High School on Saturday with games set for 1 & 2:30 p.m.

Kodiak heads to Soldotna High School for games on Friday and Saturday, January 13-14 in the Northern Lights Conference of 4A basketball.
