Four interceptions returned for touchdowns in the first half powered the Kenai Kardinals to a 64-18 dismantling of the North Pole Patriots on Saturday at Ed Hollier Field at KCHS. Kenai improves to 2-2 on the football regular season.
Kenai 64 – North Pole 18
The Kardinals opened with a 73-yard drive on offense capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Titus Riddall; then scored with a 60-yard interception run-back by Zach Burnett.
Kenai scored on a 9-yard run by Riddall for a 23-0 lead; then scored with an interception return of 42 yards by Joey Sylvester.
The Kardinals, after allowing a Patriot touchdown for a 30-6, second quarter score, returned back-to-back interceptions; one for 60 yards by Tucker Vann and one of 35 yards by Connor Felchle.
Add in a 2-yard touchdown pass from Felchle to Breadon Pitsch with only :22 seconds remaining in the half and Kenai lead 52-6 at the intermission.
In the second half, Kenai added a 49-yard touchdown run by Sylvester in the third quarter and a 55-yard touchdown run by Tucker Vann as time expired.
Final Score: Kenai 64 – North Pole 18
The Kardinals travel to Fairbanks to play West Valley in a Division II pairing next Saturday.
