Peninsula Conference basketball fills the schedule for Kenai and Nikiski for the week and the week opened with both the Kenai girls and boys posting victories over the Bulldogs on Nikiski’s home court on Tuesday.
Kenai Girls 42 – Nikiski 25
Kenai and Nikiski played evenly through the first half with the Kardinal girls leading 17-14 at the half, on their way to a 42-25 victory. Kenai held Nikiski to a lone field goal in the third quarter while the Kardinals built a 27-16 lead. Emma Beck topped the Kardinals with 19 points; Avery White recorded 9 points for the Bulldogs.
Kenai 55 – Nikiski 49
Kenai twice lead by ten points in the first half and then battled to hold the lead in a 55-49 victory over the Nikiski boys at Nikiski. The Kardinals jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and held a 28-18 lead at the half. Nikiski drew even at 32-32 in the final minute of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Kenai maintained its lead with quality free throw shooting while Nikiski stayed close on the strength of three, three-point baskets in the quarter. Jakob Kvasnikoff lead the Kardinals with 28 points. Brady Bostic topped Nikiski with 15 points.
