Homer’s Autumn Daigle raced to her second Division II state cross country running championship in three years and Kenai’s Maison Dunham places third in his third, state championship. The Kardinal girls battle to a second in the team scoring.
Runners from across Alaska competed in three divisions at the ASAA 2019 State Cross Country Running Championships contested on the Bartlett High School trails on Saturday.
Division II State Championships Results
In Division II, Autumn Daigle of Homer followed-up her Region III championship run with a state championship effort in the girls D-II event. Daigle posted a time of 19:32 in winning her second state championship (Autumn won in 2017).
For the Kenai girls, Jayna Boonstra placed fourth overall and lead the Kenai girls to a runner-up team finish to the champion Grace Christian School. Kenai’s Leah Fallon placed sixth and Logan Satathite seventh for top-10 finishes for the Kardinals; Kenai’s other scorers included Mikaela Hall in 27th and Gabriella Tews, 32nd.
Kenai’s Maison Dunham topped all peninsula runners in the D-II boys race with a third-place behind repeat champion Tristan Merchant of Anchorage Christian School. Maison posted a 16:41; Merchant ran away from the field at 15:27 (the second fastest time recorded on the day behind Division I boys champion Santiago Prosser). Joe Hamilton and Ky Calvert finished in the top-30 with 14th and 26th place finishes. The Kardinal boys placed fifth in the team scoring; Seward boys were the team runner-up behind Grace Christian School.
Division I State Championship Results
The Soldotna Stars competed in the Division I races which were dominated by individual champions Kendall Kramer of West Valley and Dimond’s Santiago Prosser. Kramer claimed her third individual D-I title and pushed the Wolfpack to a runner-up team finish to South Anchorage. Prosser dominated all season and record his first individual title and lead Dimond to the boys title.
The Soldotna girls placed seventh in the team scoring with top runners Jordan Strausbaugh and Erica Arthur finishing 30th and 40th overall in a loaded girls field.
The Soldotna boys managed a 10th place in the team scoring. Bradley Walters topped the Stars with a 44th-place, Lance Chilton placed 74th.
