Kardinals Punch Ticket to 3A State Volleyball: Play For Conference Title Saturday

The Kenai volleyball team completed another sweep in Friday’s winner’s-bracket, semi-final and with the 3-0 victory over Houston, the Kardinals qualify to the ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships and advance to the Southcentral Conference Volleyball title game on Saturday at KCHS.

 

Kenai 3 – Houston 0

Kenai advances to the SCC championship game, scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, with a 3-0 win over Houston; and the Kardinals were never challenged.

Kenai won game one 25-13, game two 25-15 and closed the match with a 25-14 game three.

 

Nikiski 3 – Homer 0

The Nikiski girls rallied from Thursday’s loss to Kenai with a pair of victories on Friday and the Bulldogs advance to the doubleback game on Saturday morning with hopes of a state berth and a conference championship still intact.

The Bulldogs defeated Homer 25-20 in game three for a three-game sweep of the Mariners.  With the win, Nikiski plays Houston at 10 a.m. on Saturday at KCHS and the winner advances to a championship game against the Kardinals.  A win over Houston will also guarantee the Bulldogs a return to the 3A state volleyball championships.

 

Saturday Tournament Schedule

10:00 a.m.  Nikiski vs Houston  Winner advances to championship game; loser finishes in 3rd place.

2 p.m.     Championship game:  Kenai vs winner of Nikiski vs Houston
