Kardinals Race To KCHS Invitational Track Titles

The track teams for the Kenai Kardinals, both girls and boys, dominating the team scoring at the KCHS Invitational Track and Field meet, featuring two-days of competition held at KCHS.

The Kenai girls totaled 127 points for first place, followed by SoHi, Grace and ACS.  The Kardinal boys amassed 147 team points, surpassing ACS, Colony and SoHi.

 

KCHS Invitational Highlights: Girls Events

800M

The holder of the girls’, state’s fastest times in the 1600M and 3200M, Kenai Central’s Allie Ostrander, and Alaska’s fastest female sprinter in the 100M, 200M, and 400M, Tanner Ealum from Anchorage Christian School, meet in track and field’s collective middle, the 800M run.

Ostrander lead through the first 700M of the race, with Eulam close behind; setting-up a 100M sprint to the finish which Eulam held-off Ostrander at the tape for the 800M victory, the state’s fastest 800M time and capping the best head-to-head contest of the KCHS Invitational.  Both runners Eulam, 2:12:88, and Ostrander, 2:12.98, posted times faster than current state best in the 800M.

1600M and 3200M

Allie Ostrander dominated the distance events with victories in the 1600M and 3200M events.  Ostrander’s 4:54.51 in the 1600M and 10:01.96 in the 3200M are the fastest outdoors times in the state this season.

Other 1st Place Finishes

Kenai won the 4X100M and 4X400M Relay events.

SoHi posted the fastest 4X200M Relay with a state best 1:51.28.

SoHi’s Dani McCormick and Daist Nelson finished 1st and 2nd in the 400M

SoHi’s Daisy Nelson finished 1st in the 200M.

CIA’s Madison Orth won the 100M hurdles and the girls long jump

 

KCHS Invitational Highlights: Boys Events

The Theisen brothers and Josh Jackman lead the Kenai boys to the team title and put on a show in the process.  Jonah and Jordan Theisen combined for four victories and three runner-up finishes, competing in only four events.  Jackman won three individual events and teamed-up for a relay victory.

Jonah raced to victories in the 800M, 1600M and 3200M runs with Jordan finishing second in each race.  The brothers teamed-up for a victory in the 4X400M Relay along with Josh Jackman and Travis Cooper.

Other 1st Place Finishes

Josh Jackman swept the hurdles winning the 110M hurdles and the 300m hurdles.  Jackman also won the long jump.

Kenai posted the fastest 4X200M Relay and 4X800M Relay; the Kards win three of four relays.

SoHi’s Dalton Best won the Shot Put and placed second in the Discus.

Nikiski’s Luke Johnson won the Discus and placed second in the Shot Put.

 

Next on the track and field schedule is the Homer Invitational Track and Field Meet scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd.
