The Kenai Kardinals improved to 4-0 in Southcentral Conference play with a five-set victory over the Homer Mariners on Thursday at KCHS. The Kardinals took control of the match mid-way through and with the victory took control of the top spot in the conference standings.
Kenai 3 – Homer 2
Kenai dropped the first two sets to the Mariners on Thursday, a slow start for the Kardinals turned into a strong rally. Homer took game one 25-18 and held off Kenai 28-26 in game two. The match turned in game three with Kenai winning 26-24 and the Kardinals raced through game four 25-16. The decisive game five goes narrowly to Kenai 15-12.
Erin Koziczkowski recorded nine kills and five blocks; Jorgi Phillips recorded 30 assists and five aces.
Kenai will face Seward in SCC volleyball on Saturday with the varsity game set for 1 p.m.
Seward 3 – SoHi 2
The Seward Seahawks won the decisive game five 19-17 to knock-off the Stars on SoHi’s home court on Thursday in non-conference volleyball.
SoHi faces Palmer in the Valley on Friday and Saturday in Northern Lights Conference pairings.
