The Kenai Kardinals opened a two-day, road trip to the Valley with a split with the Houston Hawks in 3A basketball on Friday in Houston.
The Soldotna Stars hosted Kodiak in Northern Lights Conference basketball action at Soldotna High School on Friday,
Kenai Girls 45 – Houston Girls 40
After a slow start, the Kenai girls built a 33-22 lead at the half and led by 11 points into the fourth quarter. Houston closed to within a basket before Kenai held-off the Hawks for a 45-40 victory. Emma Beck scored 21 points and Chloe Goldsby added 17 points.
Houston Boys 90 – Kenai Boys 57
A 32-point, fourth quarter for the Houston Hawks blew-open Friday’s non-conference game with the Kenai Kardinal boys. Houston’s Hayden Howard topped all scorers with 44 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter. Jakob Kvasnikoff scored 23 and Wade James added 16 for Kenai in the loss.

SoHi Girls 63 – Kodiak Girls 39
The SoHi girls recorded a Northern Lights Conference victory over Kodiak 63-39 on Friday at SoHi. Katelyn Morrison scored 17 points and Josie Sheridan added 15 for the Stars. The Stars led throughout building a 27-12 halftime lead.
Kodiak Boys 51 – SoHi Boys 49 OT
The Kodiak Bear boys hit two, three-pointers in the overtime for a 51-49 NLC victory over SoHi. Tied at 45-45 after regulation play, Kodiak held-off the Stars in the final :30 seconds, forcing a pair of turnovers and holding SoHi to a single field goal and two freethrows in overtime. Kodiak’s Connor Case scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to help the Bears overcome a five-point deficit.
SoHi face Kodiak on Saturday at Soldotna High School with the girls varsity set for 1 p.m. followed by the boys contest. The games will be broadcast on KWHQ 100.1FM and streamed at radiokenai.com.
