The Kenai Kardinals earned all of the top awards for teams classified as Division II, while the Service Cougars of Anchorage completed a sweep of the individual and team awards at the 2022 ASAA Alaska Nordic Ski Championships contested at the Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks.
ASAA Alaska Nordic Ski Championships
The Service High School girls and boys raced to championships in Saturday’s relay events. Individually, Service’s Marit Flora won both the Freestyle and Classic girls races; Aaron Powers of Service won both the Freestyle and Classic boys races.
Service earns the ASAA Nordic Ski team championships for 2022. Service repeats its 2021 team championship.
The Kenai girls were recognized as the top girls team in Division II; the girls were recognized as the ASAA All-Academic Team with a grade-point average of 4.0; and the Kenai girls were awarded the Sportsmanship Award.
The Kardinal boys were also recognized as the top team among small schools. The Kenai boys also earned the ASAA All-Academic Award with a team g.p.a. of 3.92.
Jayna Boonstra recorded the fastest finish in both the Freestyle and Classic races for DII schools and Jack Laker posted the boys small school’s fastest finishes in both individual races (see race results in previous stories).
The Kenai girls and boys repeat as the top DII team added to the 2021 team awards.
Saturday Relay Race Results

The Kenai girls placed 6th in the 4X3K relay; the Kardinal boys placed eighth in the 4X5K relay.
