Thanks to the City of Kenai and the volunteers who cleared the playing surface at KCHS, the Kenai Kardinals opened their home soccer season with a pair of victories over the Homer Mariners on Thursday on Ed Hollier Field.
Kenai Girls 3 – Homer 1
On the strength of three, unanswered goals, the Kenai girls rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Homer 3-1 in non-conference soccer. Down 1-0 in the second half following an opening goal by Homer’s Talia Weisser, Kenai scored a pair of goals by Kori Moore and a single goal by Kylee Verkuilen.
Kenai Boys 4 – Homer 0
The Kenai boys recorded a 4-0 shutout of the Homer Mariners led by a two goal effort by Wade James. Kenai’s Ezekiel Yragui opened in goal for the Kardinals and later scored a Kenai goal rotating Carnell Gump in to the goal. Kenai also received an own-goal from the Mariners.
Soccer Notes:
The Homer Mariners have not been able to practice on their home field and, like many programs, have been limited to practices in the gym.
Seward High School will not play soccer this spring in the Peninsula Conference.
The April 14th games between Kenai and SoHi has been moved to KCHS; SoHi will host the May 8th games at SoHi.
