The Soldotna Stars scored a pair of third period goals for a 3-1 victory over the Kenai Kardinals in the final regular season hockey game at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Saturday.
Justice Millers scored both SoHi goals in the third period; the first breaking a 1-1 tie and the second , an empty-net goal with :35 seconds left in the game.
The game was tied 1-1 after two periods. Kenai’s Cody Arbelovsky scored the first goal midway through the second period for a 1-0 Kenai lead. SoHi answered with a Calvin Hills goal for a 1-1 tie.
With the victory, the Stars finish conference play with a 3-6-1 record will open play at the North Star Conference Hockey Tournament against the 3-6-1 Homer Mariners. Kenai, 2-8 and the #6 seed, will open against the Colony Knights.
The tournament runs Thursday-Saturday, February 5-7 at the Menard Arena in Wasilla. Brackets and game times will be released Monday.
