Soldotna Alaska State Troopers arrested a 53-year-old man for disorderly conduct and weapons charges.
A K-9 team responded to a report Monday evening around 9:30 p.m. of a male walking along the roadway near Mile 2 of K-Beach Road in Kasilof. The complaint states that the male was discharging rounds from what originally was reported to be a rifle as well as a revolver. The male was located and identified as 53-year-old Eric W. Smyth of Kasilof. Smyth was reportedly in possession of a shotgun as well as a .44 Magnum handgun. He also was found to be wearing body armor.
Smyth was taken into custody without incident.
An investigation revealed that Smyth was high on methamphetamines and had shot several rounds off in his home before jumping out of a window. He was witnessed to be exhibiting erratic behavior as well as yelling and screaming and shooting rounds while walking near the highway.
Smyth was arrested for three counts of 4th degree misconduct involving weapons and one count of disorderly conduct. Due to the amount of methamphetamines that he used, Smyth was transported to Central Peninsula Hospital for medical clearance where he was medically cleared, transported and remanded to Wildwood Pretrial.
