A Kasilof man was arrested and jailed twice on Tuesday, first in the afternoon, and then again later that evening after he was released from Wildwood Pretrial—in both cases he was charged with weapons misconduct and assault.
Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance in Kasilof just after noon on Tuesday. Troopers responded to the scene and found Donald Hallstead, 51 of Kasilof, had discharged a firearm, then drove to his neighbor’s house while intoxicated. Once there, Hallstead assaulted his neighbors then went back to his house.
While AST was conducting their investigation Hallstead physically assaulted one of the State Troopers detaining him. At that point he was placed under arrest for DUI, 4th degree Misconduct Involving Weapons, and three counts of 4th degree Assault.
Troopers remanded Hallstead to Wildwood Pre-Trial, however, he was released a short while later.
Then, around 7:30 that same evening, the original complainant called back and described the same threatening behavior and gunfire.
Troopers were dispatched to the scene, where they again found Hallstead to be intoxicated by alcoholic beverages.
Following this incident, he was charged with four counts of 3rd Degree Assault, as well as Misconduct Involving Weapons, and Violation of Conditions of Release.
