A Kasilof man who had “recklessly eluded” the Alaska State Troopers early last week was apprehended in Kasilof after leading troopers on a brief chase that ended with a tour of ruination through a local junkyard.
Alaska State Troopers located Frank Bush, a 36-year-old Kasliof resident, on Tuesday, Apr. 30. Bush was wanted for a federal firearms warrant. According to an AST dispatch, when contacted, Bush “recklessly eluded” the Trooper who located him. During that incident, Bush struck the mirror of a patrol car, causing “very minor damage.”
Then, at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Soldotna AST, assisted by Trooper K9 teams from the Mat-Su Valley and Fairbanks, responded to a Kasilof residence to locate Bush. They located him hiding in a vehicle on the rear of the property, which was littered with many “junked” vehicles.
According to the dispatch, Bush refused to surrender and began recklessly driving through the property in an attempt to escape. During the attempted flight, he struck several of the disabled vehicles, other items, and numerous trees. In doing so, he “placed three Troopers in fear of death or serious injury.” Eventually, Bush’s attempt to flee capture came to an end when, after several minutes of what would best be described as a “demolition derby in a junkyard,” his vehicle was disabled after driving into a densely wooded area.
Bush and his passenger and girlfriend, 31-year-old Selena Larson, also a Kasilof resident, were both arrested without further incident.
Larson was arrested and remanded for first-degree hindering prosecution.
Bush was arrested and remanded for two counts of first-degree failure to stop at the direction of a police officer, fifth-degree criminal mischief, domestic violence, reckless endangerment, and three counts of third-degree assault on a police officer.
Lance Kitchen, age 32, of Kasilof, fled the scene during the chaos, and a warrant for his arrest for first-degree hindering prosecution has been sought.
