The Kenai Kardinal volleyball team, seeded #1 South, recorded a pair of victories on the opening day of the Southcentral Conference Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at Kenai Central High School and advances to the winner’s semi-final game on Friday.
The Southcentral Conference Volleyball Tournament featured six games on Thursday, four opening round games based on tournament seeding and two winner’s bracket games.
The Kardinals defeated Redington 3-0 in the first round and the Nikiski Bulldogs defeated Anchorage Christian School 3-0 in the first round to set up a Kenai vs Nikiski showdown.
Kenai downed Nikiski 3-0 in the semi-final to advance to Friday’s winner’s bracket semi-final game. Emma Beck lead Kenai with 12 kills; Jorgi Phillips recorded 22 assists and five kills. Nikiski’s Ashlynne Playle recorded seven kills
In the top of the bracket Houston, #1 North, defeated Seward 3-1 and Homer defeated Grace 3-1. In the semi-final, Houston upset Homer 3-2 to advance to Friday’s winner’s bracket semi-final game.
