The Kenai City Council enacted an ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant from the State of Alaska for the purchase of library materials. The Kenai Community Library received a FY23 Public Library Assistance grant of $7,000 from the State of Alaska, Department of Education and Early Development, Division of Library, Archives and Museums.
“The library is awarded an annual public library assistance grant from the State of Alaska,” according to City Manager Paul Ostrander. This is this year’s amount, and it is $7,000, but I believe this is right in the realm of what we normally receive, and this is something that we receive annually from the State of Alaska.”
The Kenai Community Library Director Katja Wolfe wrote that the library was awarded an annual Public Library Assistance Grant. The funds will be used for the purchase of library materials.
In Wolfe’s case, the Library Director completes an application each year in order to receive these funds. Certain minimum standards need to be met in order to receive the grant. Those include reporting requirements on expenditures and collection statistics, the number of hours that the library is open to the public, minimum educational requirements for the Library Director and continuing education requirements.
The grant funds, according to eligibility requirements, may be used to pay staff, purchase library materials, or pay for any other daily operating cost of the library.
